I need your help

Well if you read yesterday's post you will know I have been having a little bit of a problem with the floral cross stitch I am trying to do for Christmas. I frogged all the DMC, pulled out my Anchor and tried again and lo and behold it looked pretty much the same, which is to say not at all like the picture.

To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. However I persevered and decided I would change the colours completely from the key list. I have done two sets of colours and would love to hear what your thoughts are. Which do you think looks better?

Choice 1:

Flowers in Focus - The World of Cross Stitching Issue 190 - Gerbera
Choice 2:

Flowers in Focus - The World of Cross Stitching Issue 190 - Gerbera

Please do let me know what you think. This would be the first time I have ever deviated from a pattern, so really need some thoughts from other stitchers.

  1. I also find it very hand to find macthinh colours when changing to DMC from Anchor :/ Never really happy with the results..

I think they both look good though (your choice). But maybe 2nd one is tiny bit better?

  3. I prefer the bottom ones but then I prefer cerise type shades of pink.

Don't worry about changing threads I do it all the time unless I'm stitching something really big or important - just pick all your colours before you start and lay them on your fabric all together so you can change any that lay there shouting NO!!!! lol

  4. They both would work, but I think that the 2nd one looks more like the picture on the pattern.
The most important thing is that YOU are happy with your choice! I never hesitate to change colors if I want/need to. This is something you are going to have for a long time and you should love it!

  5. Have to agree with the others: choice 2 seems to be closer to the original picture.

  6. If you're not sure about what colours to choose, you can always see what colour families have been used in other designs that you feel work - if that makes sense! Sometimes I think you have to forget about the picture in the magazine and go with what you feel is right on the fabric, after all no-one will be comparing your finished piece to the magazine picture.

  7. It's always so hard when the colours are different! I#'ve got a DMC colour chart that I use to decide colours, which helps to pick ones out.

I think either will work, Option 1 looks slightly more muted/vintage colours, option 2 looks brighter and more similar to the picture. Option 2 will also give you a more subtle petal shading as the colours look more similar, whereas they look more contrasting in option 1 so the shading would be more obvious. I think personally I would choose Option2 as I prefer colours which seem to merge together closly, and I like the brightness of them!

    Good Luck with the finish!

  11. I agree with my fellow stitchers; I think #2 is closer to the colors in the picture. Good luck!
