Durene Jones Freebie Halloween Finish

Hey everyone, with Halloween time coming in fast, I have decided to share a finish I have been holding onto. This is a piece I did over a couple of days earlier this year and I thought it would be nice to wait to show it off. It is a freebie pattern by Durene Jones, whose charts I love, and is available on her Facebook page here.

This little guy is just so cute, with the witches hat and tiny little spider. It was such a fun project to work on. It is stitched on a piece of 14ct aida, just a scrap I had left over from other projects, using DMC 2 over 1. The back stitching is really straight forward so using aida was no problem and it stitched up very quickly.

The plan is to finish it off as an ornament of some kind and have it on display for Halloween, so there will be a post on that in the near future. Every year I mean to make some Halloween decorations but never get around to it, so this will be the first of what will, hopefully, be many Halloweeny goodies. There are lots of freebie charts on Durene's FB page that I want to stitch, as well as a number from various stitching magazines, so I'm sure you will be seeing more of her work on here.

We are really starting to see the effects of Autumn around here. The leaves are falling, the mornings are definitely cooler and the evenings are darker. I actually really like the early nights, I know quite a few people hate them but I just love that feeling of being all snuggled up at home with the darkness outside. Who else is a fan of the darker nights or Autumn/Fall season? I would love to know and also what you like about it, leave a comment below.

Well that's all for now.

  2. Such a cutie :) Things are cooling off here, too, but we have had the nicest, warmest September I can remember here in Pennsylvania. I am NOT a fan of the earlier darkness; I feel more tired and just don't have the same energy after dinner. But, it does make for cozy stitching time :)

  3. What a cute little finish =) I really want to stitch some Halloween projects, but it doesn't really feel like fall here in Germany. I mean it's a bit cooler in the morning, but the temperatures are still very high (more like in summer.... just to hot for autumn). I just hope it will get colder so I can start wearing warmer clothes and so on and stitch autumn things ;-)

  4. Very cute Halloween stitch. Durene is one of my favorite designers--almost every time I see something I like in a magazine and check the designer, it's Durene.

    1. Thanks so much for your comment. Now it just needs that final finish so that it can be on display. That will require some thought.

  10. Aaa no this is too cute! Well, that was an insta-add to my hoarded freebies, thanks. :b

I am fond of the earlier evenings too -- but I hate darker mornings. I like to be snuggled up in the dark after a long day but in the morning, well, I should just be asleep! Alas.

    1. Thanks so much for your comment. I'm kinda glad I live in a place that doesn't get unbearably hot as I don't think I could manage it. Just going on holidays to hot places I find I can do next to nothing in the heat.

  16. I love this one - such a cutie. I'm going on a little retreat this weekend and am planning to start one or two of Durene's charts - they are so sweet!
I like Autumn, to me 1st September feels like the start of a new year more so than 1st January. I love the darker evenings, cosy inside with my daylight lamp and my stitching!

  18. Aww so cute! I like the darker nights once I get used to them but living in cali we still have the ac on through most of fall and winter so no snuggling up with a hot drink
