Bent Creek Bird Seed Cross Stitch Finish

Firstly a huge apology to all my readers for being away from my blog for the last month, things have been a bit hectic here. While I haven't manage to blog I did squeeze in some stitching and I’m super happy to share a finish. Bird Seed from Bent Creek, featured in Just Cross Stitch Apr 2002 issue, is done.

This was a really fun and simple project to work on and I'm delighted with the DMC equivalent results. This has given me confidence in using DMC substitutes in future charts from Just Cross Stitch. The change from over dyed threads to DMC had been a source of concern but this turned out really well.

The Rainforest hand dyed fabric from Sparklies looks great with the colours and theme of this piece. Normally I wouldn’t leave such a large amount of extra fabric on a project unless I was planning on framing it but I thought of converting this piece into a cube finish. I knew I would need a decent amount around the edges if I wanted to do that. It would be my first attempt at such a finish, which is very exciting.

Once this was completed I started stitching another medium sized project so I will something new to show you all very soon. I will tell you that it is a Soda Stitch piece, my first ever and I am loving it. This means that I haven’t made any progress on any of my WIPs but hopefully I will feel the call of either Elegance or Celtic Spring in the near future. Finishing either one would be great.

Now that this project is done, I would love to hear what you think about how it turned out and some finishing suggestions. Leave a comment below.

  2. Gorgeous finish! The fabric is beautiful. A cube would be nice. I also think it would look lovely on the front of a project bag but I know I wouldn't be up to making one of those. Maybe you're better at finishing than me?!
I stitched a Soda Stitch earlier this year and enjoyEd it too. They're so cute aren't they? Looking forward to seeing yours soon.

    1. Thanks so much for your comment Justine. It was seeing your and Mii's Soda stitch projects that led me to check them out for myself and I am so happy I did! They are such fun and are so relaxing to work on. A project bag would be a lovely idea too, my main worry would be, that unprotected the stitching would get damaged on a bag. Maybe I'm just being paranoid though :)

    1. Thanks so much for your comment Linda. I'm delighted this piece turned out so well, as I had took a number of risks with it in fabric and thread choice and changing the border a bit.

    1. Thanks so much for your great comment. I can't decide whether to keep this one for myself or give it away. I normally give away a lot of the projects I stitch but I think this one will probably be staying with me.

    1. Thanks so much for your comment. The great thing about this chart too is that it was so simple to stitch, which made it just so relaxing. Even when I made an error or two I was able to mostly just compensate instead of frogging.

    1. Thanks so much Sally. I am tempted to purchase another piece of this particular fabric as I had a chart I thought would look lovely on it before I used it for Bird Seed.
