Homemade Foodie Goodies: Tomato Chutney

I hope you will all enjoy this post. This is a recipe that I have used for the last few years to make a Tomato Chutney for Christmas presents. My family love this and I decided to make some more as most of them have managed to polish off the Christmas batch.

The before shot: Chutney Prep
This is quite a simple recipe and can be found online here: Tomato Chutney Recipe. I would give one piece of advice if anyone decides to try this recipe and that is, use large onions. This recipe calls for 500g of red onions and if you use smaller onions it can feel like torture to try and get them all chopped.

The after shot: Chutney made and in jars
Also don't forget to sterilise your jars and lids before you put the Chutney in them. I also usually put a list of ingredients on a tag and tie it to the jar so that people know what in it in case there is anything they don't like. Please do let me know if you try this recipe and how you get on with it.
Enjoy!

Joined the Twitter Flock

Recently I decided I would join Twitter under my blog name. I thought it might be fun to Tweet bout the crafty things I was up to as well as be able to shout and scream when I do something wrong. In blog posts you get to see how the piece has progressed after a number of hours work and after all mistakes have been fixed. I thought twitter might be a fun way to talk about the process

I also plan to tweet about upcoming posts that people can look out for so that you might know in advance about something that is of particular interest or when it goes up on the blog.

If anyone is interested in following along with me my Twitter name is pulltheotherthread@pulltheotherth.

I have been working away on Elegance for a couple of days as well as making up a batch of Tomato Chutney, which my family is a big fan of. I will keep the Elegance post for YOTA which is the first Saturday of Feb. The Tomato Chutney post with a link to the recipe will be posted on Wednesday.

Homemade Food Goodies: Buttermilk Scones

Well today I decided I would try baking some scones. I have always enjoyed baking but I haven't done much in recent years. So in an attempt to get back into baking and cooking regularly as well as trying to improve my diet I am going to post some food goodies from now on so I hope you all enjoy.

Homemade Buttermilk Scones
I have made scones before, fairly recently, but they didn't really turn out very well. I got the Masterchef Cookery Course book as it has lots of really nice basic recipes as well as tips on how to make many meal staples such as roast potatoes etc. So I tried the buttermilk scone recipe and they came out really, really well. I am very happy with the result

I did a web search to find an alternative recipe for Buttermilk scones. I think I will use this one next time and let you all know how it turns out: Buttermilk Scone Recipe

Yum Yum Buttermilk Scone with butter and honey
If anyone tries out the recipe in the link above before I do I would love to know how they turn out.

Still Homemade but Something a Little Different: Butternut Squash Soup

When I first started this blog it was meant to be a general craft/homemade blog, however as my love of cross stitch crept back that became most of what I posted on. Now I would like to post a bit more regularly but include some other crafty pursuits.

Recently I have been making a list of things I would like to try or learn. One of those things was to expand my cooking abilities. To that end I decided to try to make a Butternut Squash Soup. So onto the trusty internet I went and did a search for some recipes. I finally settled on one that looked nice and simple. You can find the recipe here: Easy Butternut Squash Soup

I gave it a go yesterday and learned a thing or two. While I love butternut squash I have never cooked with it before and I discovered just how difficult it is to peel. It took me a while to getting the whole thing done, however once I did the rest of the recipe was very straight forward. I did make one mistake in the recipe and added too much cream which has made the soup quite creamy and heavy but I found that it was still delicious and was quite happy with the outcome.

This recipe made quite a large pot of soup so I will be freezing some of it in individual portions for when I need something quick. I have always been really reluctant about making soup as I thought it would be a complicated process but this was so easy, other than the peeling, that I think I will be trying some other soup recipes.

I hope you have enjoyed this post about something a bit different and that you find some of these homemade item topics useful. Please let me know what you think in the comments or by email at pulltheotherthread@gmail.com

Next experiment: Homemade Scones, wish me luck!
