Well onto Elegance of the Orient, I have some more progress to show. I managed to complete 3 of my small goals on this piece, the blossoms below the bird, the gold backstitching on the left side of the shawl and the same on the right. I'm pretty happy with that and plan to move onto the flowers and tree branch above her hand on the right side of the piece next.
Dimensions Gold - Elegance of the Orient Cross Stitch Work in Progress |
The gold backstitching in the shawl was tricky and took longer than I expected. It uses 2 strands of metallic and 1 of cotton, which surprisingly makes it more difficult to use than just metallic on its own. I was really glad when I finished the last of those stitches. The only metallic left is in the underskirt and it uses just 2 strands of metallic rather than a mix.
I also ripped back what I thought was the incorrect stitching in the branch, which I mentioned in the post here, only to realise that the blossom and rest of the branch, back to the flower cluster, is also incorrect. That has been put on the to-do list to be tackled a little later.
I plan to do a post on the goal breakdown that I have started to use for this and some of my other projects. I would love to know if that would be something readers would be interested in knowing more about or not. Let me know in the comments section below.
Well that's all for now.
Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your crafty/gaming weekend :)
Thanks so much for your comment Mii. I had quite a fun weekend, a little busier than planned but still got in some Dark Souls 2 a& a bit of stitching on Blossoming Spring so all in all, very nice.
DeleteLovely work! I'd be very interested in your goal breakdown. I've had BAPs that took me ages to finish because I didn't use a good small finish method like you've described. It felt disheartening how long it took.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your comment. I often feel disheartened when working on larger projects and see how much I have left to do. I will put together a post on the goal breakdown in the near future.
DeleteYou really seem to be getting loads done with her....she looks almost finished! Well done :) Enjoy the crafting and gaming weekend!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your comment Rhona. She is getting closer to the finish, very slowly. I had a very enjoyable weekend, hope you did too.
DeleteLovely work =) I can't see anything wrong, it looks fine to me =)
ReplyDeleteI gave the Witcher 3 to my BF for his birthday and he has played it four hours so far and says it's a great game ;-) I started reading the matching books and they are quite funny (well, in the way the witcher himself is funny :D )
Thanks so much for your comment. I played both the first & second Witcher games and absolutely loved them. I am really enjoying Witcher 3 as well. Are you a gamer as well?
DeleteWonderful progress. She is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLinda
Thanks so much for your comment Linda. You are so sweet as always
DeleteShe is so beautiful! Good luck with the metallic, looking forward to the next update.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your comment. She has been a little neglected this week I'm afraid. Hopefully I will pick her up again this week and cross a few more items off my list.
DeleteI hope you are having a fun gaming and stitch weekend. It sounds like my heaven. I would love to hear about your goal breakdown. You're a visionary in the cross stitch world. Please please share your insight with us. Xoxo
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your comment. I had good fun at the weekend, even though I was playing Dark Souls 2, which is a series well known for it's difficulty. A visionary I absolutely am not :D I just have to keep trying things or I go a little stir crazy.
DeleteShe's stunning, great job! Have a wonderful weekend😊
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your sweet comment. I hope you had a lovely weekend.
DeleteI had problems with metalic, on a piece a few years ago. Looking good.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your comment. It can often depend on the brand of metallic. I use treasure braid in Celtic Spring and find it fairly ok but some of the DMC ones are awful to work with.
Deleteshe looks amazing!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your comment Vickie. I was really happy to get that cotton metallic thread combo done.
DeleteSuch a beauty!! I truly admire the intricacy of this piece and hope the re-stitching goes quickly on the branches :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your comment Carol. The restitching shouldn't take too long as there isn't to much to rip back. Actually I think the ripping back is what will take more time :D
DeleteBeautiful! She looks perfect to me - do you really need to restitch those branches?
ReplyDeleteI'd be interested to see how you break down your stitching to help you achieve your goals. I do something similar but don't write it down.
Thanks so much for your comment Justine. The branch mistake will just annoy me if I don't fix it. It isn't a big error so better to just rip it back. I will be interested to see if you goal method is different than mine and in what ways. I'm always eager to learn new techniques.
DeleteLovely stitching! She's looking gorgeous :D
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your comment. I haven't managed to get too much more done on her, hopefully will find some time soon to make some progress.
DeleteBeautiful progress!
