Short Break, Normal Service to Resume Shortly
Hi all, I just wanted to hop online quickly to let you all know that I am taking a short break from the blogging world. I plan to be back very soon and I hope you guys can stick with me for a little while. Enjoy your Easter, if you celebrate it and I will be keeping a watch on all your progress, commenting when I can.

Lesson Learned, Lesson Shared!
Hey everyone, my apologies I know I have been missing in the last week. We had visitors so of course there was a lot of work to be done before and no crafting was done during their stay. Though I have to admit I didn't miss the crafting as it was very pleasant having them stay with us.
However something did happen which I would like to post about so that I can share a hard lesson I have learned. Over the weekend us and our guests went to a local woods for a walk. There is an enclosed car park there for people to leave their cars. I had a bag with me, like most ladies I don't go anywhere without it. However as we were going for a walk I decided to leave it behind.
Like I'm sure many of you have been told, I put my bag in an enclosed boot so it could not be seen. After a pleasant walk of less than an hour, as it started to rain, we returned to the car to find the back window smashed, seats dropped and bag gone. 7-8 cars were all hit at the same time and way, the thieves went mostly for car boots.
While I am sure the thieves were only interested in cash and maybe electronics, I lost far more than that. I have been feeling such a sense of intrusion ever since. I had bank cards, loyalty cards, ID, electronics and more, including a couple of personal and irreplaceable items which I am sure are now lying in a bin or field somewhere. I have spent a number of days trying to replace and cancel a number of services.
Once I think about it, it isn't as surprising that despite following the advice about keeping valuables out of sight, they were not safe. It isn't like those who would engage in this behaviour wouldn't have heard the same thing and learned where to hit.
My advice to all is this, do not believe that valuable out of sight are inaccessible. I will never leave my belongings in a vehicle again and it has also taught me to only have essentials in my bag when I go out. A few things that were in my bag had no need or reason to be there for the days activities. I know all this probably sounds like common sense, but I have told some others this story and the responses I have gotten are 'I do that all the time, I thought it was safe'
Keep safe.

Missing
Life has been a bit crazy at the moment, so I haven't been able to craft or update as often, I'm afraid. I also have some charts to send to a few people, which I haven't managed yet. I will get them out to you before next week.
I will be back on Saturday for March YOTA update. I look forward to seeing everyone's progress.

A Tidy Up
Well I have begun a tidy of all my craft supplies recently and have been dismantling all my mags and only keeping what I want from them. I have however a few freebies that I don't want but someone else might like them.
So if you want any of the following, leave me a comment as to what you want. If one person wants to item, they can have it. If two or more want it I will do a random pick and if no one wants them, then the recycling get them. I will stop taking comments on the 31st Jan for them.
I will be continuing with my clear out over the next few weeks so I may have more things someone out there might be interested in. I just think it's a shame to throw them away if someone is interested in them.
PS I should have mentioned that none of these have been used or stitched from at all so they are all in good condition.

Emmmm......
..... I know I haven't really been updating much at the moment. I actually haven't been getting any stitching, knitting or, any crafting really, done. I am making a dress which I am hoping to start at the weekend so I should have an update on that at least, fairly soon. The reason I am AFK (away from keyboard for all the non gamers) is I just have a huge amount of stuff on at the moment. I hope you all can stick with me and I will do my best to update with something even if it is just small.
I have also been doing a bit of reading lately which has also cut into my stitching/crafting time. I am on the third book of the Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones) series. It is quite a slow moving book but each time I pick it up I find myself sucked into the story.
I have found that when I have some spare time lately I bounce around between project so I may have to try and be a little stricter with myself and try and settle down to specific tasks. The dress mentioned above really need my attention as there is a deadline for when it needs to be done so I really have to get cracking on it.
Have a great day :)

What have I been up to?
Hey everyone. This is a mixed post so there will be some stuff not craft related. Also no pictures I'm afraid.
Well I have been doing a number of different things, though I have been finding it difficult to settle on any one things for any length of time. Firstly I have been doing a bit of stitching, not much though. I have worked a bit on Bridge of Wings and I nearly have a half page finish to show you, so will post that in the next few days.
I have been catching up a lot with family and friends, which has been great. I have also been gaming and reading quite a bit too. While I was finishing up my final college project I was dreaming about all the things I could do once I was finished, now that time is upon me I have difficulty deciding what I want to do.
I have been playing quite a bit of Skyrim. This is a really addictive game and I am still learning things about how I want to play, even though I am many hours into it. There is the option of playing any type of character you like. The player can do quests or skip quests and can play many different types of characters depending on how they level skills. I originally planned on being a magic user however I have really turned into a warrior type character who can do some magic.
The expansion, Hearthfire, for the game is quite addictive, as it now allows the player to build their own house. This I have really enjoyed for the most part though there are a few problems. On consoles, you can't remove furniture once you have put it in, you can't see where the items are going to go before you build them, you can't put stuff into the display cases unless you drop them and pick them up manually then drop them into the case, however when I did do this and came back to my house the sword I had put in a display case had vanished and I can't get it back now. However for all that you can do some really cool stuff. There is unlimited storage, you can build a number of different wings (though you can only build 3 of 9 options) which allows you to build things like a kitchen, a greenhouse (for growing ingredients), alchemy tower, armory etc.One of the biggest advantages is that you can have almost everything you could need in you house, a smelter, forge, grind stone, tanning rack, alchemy and enchanters tables and shrines (for curing ailments).
I have also being doing some reading, currently I am on book 2 of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series. These are fantasy books and are really interesting and enjoyable. However I will say that this is a 13 book series, and I hope to read them all but each book is about 600-700 pages long so it may take a while :) These books do a great job of capturing my attention and building a complex fantasy world, weaving a story of magic, evil and heroes. So far I am loving it and if you like fantasy books, it is well worth giving a go.
I hopefully will be back soon with the half page finish on Bridge. Have a great day all :)

Out of Commission
Hey all. I am giving you all a heads up that I won't be blogging as much for the next few weeks. I have a major deadline on the horizon so all my time will be going into that. I will hop on as much as I can to show any updates and crafty goodness that I actually manage.
I hope you all can stick with me and I will be back to blogging regularly as soon as I can. I might also throw in some posts about things other than crafting that I enjoy and would like to share with you if I don't have craft related stuff.
I will still be keeping up with all of your wonderful posts even if I am not commenting as much.
Have a lovely Valentine's Day all.

Ooppps
I joined in a SAL on Heather's Stitching Story blog for the last weekend. However I got absolutely nothing done in my stitching. Not even a tiny half cross stitch, nothing, nadda, zip. So my apologies to anyone who has been coming to my blog looking for some progress, which does not exist.
I have something big to get done in my regular life and it is sucking away all my time. However I do have a little bit of an update for YOTA on Saturday.
I am going to try and get a little bit more done on my Hedgehog, Thistle as he is named, over the next couple of days and hopefully will have something for you in a few days.
Have a great day :)

My love of WIP's
This is a post to say thanks to all the people out there who post their crafty pictures. At the moment I am in a real stitching place for the last year or so. I usually go through crafting phases where my craft of choice changes, however stitching is my big one at the minute. It means that I do feel bad that my other crafts are neglected.
However I digress. The crux of this post is how much I love looking at WIP's. It is so soothing and relaxing to look at how other people are getting on with their pieces. I love seeing how different projects are coming together. I end up trawling the internet looking for places where people have posted their WIP pics. I really love seeing completed or in progress pieces of charts that I am current stitching, have in my stash or on my wishlist.
So to all you fellow crafters and stitchers out there, a big thank you from me for taking the time to share your work.
I have also been trying to narrow my focus on projects for 2013. I have a number of goals in mind including:
I have to finish Oriental Elegance
I have a secret project I need to get done during the year
I have a project for my OH that he wants me to stitch for him
I want to finish Majestic Peacock
I want to finish QS Fairy with Butterfly Mask
I am planning a new start probably around May of HAED chart Autumn by Jacek Yerka with Spices of your life (Please do check out her brand new blog)
I also want to get the HAED BB SAL piece done.
And somewhere in with all of this, work and study I want to get work on Bridge of Wings done.
Wow that is a long list of things to try and get done. I wonder how many I will achieve. Majestic Peacock is going to be my first YOTA piece and I may have to restrict myself to maybe a week working on a YOTA piece in each month, but not sure yet. This list does not include work on Celtic Spring, QS Clara, QS Olianna, The Journey (Aveyond) or a number of other charts I have on the go :-s
How about you, have you all been thinking about your plans for 2013?

Crazier than an enraged badger - Blog Hop
Well it is blog hop time again and the prompt is:
When it comes to the stitching part of your life, what are you most thankful for?
Without stitching and crafting in general I would be quite, quite crazy. It has gotten me through some of the hardest times in my life. When I am having a very hard day at work or in general, I find one of the ways to calm myself is look at a few blogs, or my WIPs or my collection of HAED charts on my hard drive.
It is a great way to unwind and just let my brain shut down for a while, though my OH says that he can tell when I am particularly stressed because it is all I want to do in my spare time. I love just putting on a well watched DVD (usually Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings or something) and stitching away, getting lost in each little / or X depending on whether I am working on a HAED or not :)
Also crafted items, I think, make the best gifts and with everything being so financially difficult of late having a hobby and a skill that allows me to make some gifts that I know people will like and enjoy makes special occasions much less stressful. Last Christmas I made most of my family hand crafted gifts, and they seemed to really like them.
So crafting, I am very thankful I found you :)

Engaged in battle....with myself
I have been fighting myself a lot lately. I have made two decisions, 1. no more starts 2. no more buying of craft stuff. However the big problem with both of these is, that things are really hard and stressful here at the moment and new starts and stash usually help cheer me up (until I get the credit card bill that is). However I have so much craft equipment that at this point it just seems like a pointless waste of money. I keep buying more and it just gets put on the pile
Now I'm not saying that I well never ever again buy any stash but I'm definitely cutting down on the amounts of stash I accumulate. Not only does it seem like a waste of money but I also do not have the space for any more. I have a load of craft stuff stashed in my parents house as well as taking up the majority of our study room at home.
The second rule about no more new starts, well the reason for that is simple: I want some finishes. I have a large number of cross stitch WIP's on the go at the moment and I just keep starting new projects without finishing any. Also all my other crafts like card-making, knitting etc etc etc are suffering from lack of attention.
This is partly why I have organised YOTA, to try and make some progress into my 'started but not finished' project pile. My big problem, I love new starts. I have so many projects I really want to get started on that I just keep starting them, but then as I have so many on the go, I make little progress with them. So you see my dilemma, I love the starts but I want the finishes. This is going to require some major self control on my part.
The other problem with my constant stream of new starts is that when I look at how well other people are progressing on their projects I feel really bad about my own. This then leads to dissatisfaction with my own cross stitching and honestly takes some of the fun out of it.
So here is the deal I am making no new starts. I want to finish Elegance of the Orient, all my Christmas projects, half of Bridge of Wings, work on Majestic Peacock (for YOTA) and all of QS Fairy with Butterfly mask. How well I manage to stick to this, I don't know as usually I really hate self imposed limits like this but I think it is really necessary. There are 2 exceptions to this rule (of course). The first is that I want to do the HAED BB SAL next year with the aim of actually doing it. The second is that sometimes I like to bring mini projects to work and carry them around so I can work on them when I have some spare time these ones I will rotate in and out as I complete them.
Well that is kinda my plan. If anyone is interested in YOTA, please click on the tab at the top and join in with us to get some of those WIP's and UFO's finished (they can be in any craft not just cross stitch).

Absolutely no time
Hey again all. I'm sorry I have been missing and that I have now neglected to do two Gift MAL's I had one all planned out, it was a stitching one but it all went wrong and I think I am going to have to try and restart.
Want to see anyway? Ok. The plan was the stitch the following three pieces, they are patterns from a magazine, I can't remember right now which one. The thread key has the Anchor numbers, then the DMC, then the Maderia. Since I have a full set of DMC that is the one I went with. The one I have worked on is the first one below.
Flowers in Focus - The World of Cross Stitching Issue 190 - Gerbera
Flowers in Focus - The World of Cross Stitching Issue 190 - Stargazer Lily
Flowers in Focus - The World of Cross Stitching Issue 190 - Anemone
However the colours don't look right at all. As you can see it does not look like the image. I am guessing that the original was stitched using Anchor. I have a chunk of the colours for these ones in Anchor so I may fish them out and see how they look in comparison with the DMC. The plan was to stitch the three and frame them together in a long frame.
I have had very little time for pretty much anything lately. Work and college have been crazy and a member of my family was very sick in hospital so that is why I have been missing and not updating any crafty stuff. I hope you all can forgive me :)
Also a reminder, anyone interested in joining in on my UFO SAL (Unfinished Object Stitch A Long) for 2013, don't forget to sign up in the YOTA tab at the top of this blog. For all those who have projects that are not stitching projects but might be knitting, quilting, whatever, and want some help motivating yourself to finish, please also feel free to join. I would love to see what you are all working on.

I just love IHSW Monday
I know that may sound a little strange, but I really love checking out all the crafty, stitchy blogs after IHSW. I really like seeing all the wonderful progress. This time around it is especially nice because I got no time to do anything myself so I'm getting my stitching fix through all of you.
My Plum Brandy has started to turn a beautiful deep red colour and at the moment I am shaking it every day. I didn't include the recipe in my MAL post and I felt bad about not being able to share it with you all, so I went online and found a recipe for it. This recipe is slightly different to the one I am using but it should work just as well, just click: HERE. I hope you guys liked this idea, I find it is a useful present to give to adults (only) who are difficult to buy for.
Unfortunately my entire weekend was taken up with study so I don't have anything to show you, though I will try and get another late MAL up in the next couple of days. I think it will be a cross stitching progress one so keep a look out :) Also don't forget to have a look at what the others have made at Tangled Threads and Tiki Stitches for some great ideas on some Christmas makes.
Don't forget if you want to join in, just click the tab above. Have a great day all :)

Still here
Hey all. Sorry I have been missing for a while now. I am hoping to catch up with some posting, including the gift MAL, in the next few days. I have been keeping up with all your blogs and have been trying to comment when I can.
Thank you all for your comments on my last post, I have to admit that everything is indeed not ok, but will muddle through.
Unfortunately I won't have time to participate in the IHSW this weekend. I have a lot of stuff to try and catch up with so my crafting in general has been suffering.
I hope everyone is good, and I looking at all your wondering stitching has been making me want to work on my own so much. Please do check out Chic Crafting for a great idea on making a bath puff giftie from crochet. I think this is such a lovely idea. I am hoping to do some experiments with soap in the next little while and this would make a lovely addition to some handmade bath products so keep an eye out for those.
Have a great day everyone and see you all soon :)

To let you know
I will not be blogging for a couple of days. I know that gift MAL day was Friday and I haven't posted anything. I promise I will in a few days. Something has come up and I need to deal with that at the minute. I hope you all can be patient with me and I will be back as soon as I can.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Come Back!
Well I think it is official, my creative bug has taken a holiday. I have been doing very little cross stitching or crafting in general of late. I still have the itch to do some stitching especially when I look at others in blog land WIP's and when I look at my stash it does make me want to do some crafty things. However when I get home, sit down and think what do I want to do every idea I dismiss.
I hate losing my creative drive, especially in the run up to Christmas, I really want to make my gifts again this year but just can't seem to get my head together. I was thinking that I might run a little Christmas MAL, like a SAL but it's a Make Along. Where other bloggers could post progress on their Christmas gifties on a certain date. Something like the TUSAL but maybe the first and third Friday of the Month kind of thing. That way we can all get inspiration from each other. I would also have a tab on this blog where everyone involved could link their blog.
Any thoughts anyone has on this would be great.
Wow an idea just came to me. I will have a giveaway - kinda ridiculous but here we go, I will give it a try. I will give a $20 voucher for HAED to someone. All you have to do is post a comment with a suggestion as to WHERE my creative drive may have gone - weird and amusing suggestions welcome :) I will draw the winner at random. I will leave it open until 30th September and draw on the 2nd October. Also leave your e-mail address too.
Have a great day everyone.

Still here, still stitching
Hey all, I am still here and have been keeping up with all your amazing work. I am also still stitching, working on the detailed areas of Bridge of Wings and Elegance of the Orient. Been having some personal stuff going on so haven't been getting a lot done. I am not going to give you a picture of my progress, mostly because there is very little of it.
Also been playing some World of Warcraft lately. For all those who play, I have been getting faction rep to collect mounts :) It's great but it does slow down the stitching a little.
I hope everyone is having a good week.

A WooHoo and an Ooops
Ok, the woohoo first. I got my college assignment submitted yesterday and am very happy it is all finished with. Now I just have my thesis to write :o I have a week off work next week so going to spend some time doing some research, some time doing some stitching and having some fun with the new World of Warcraft patch that was released in the lead up to the new expansion.
The Ooops is to do with Bridge of Wings. I decided to change it onto a scroll frame so that I could use my floor frame. As some of you might know I have been using the parking method for this project and have been stitching in vertical rows. So I managed to get two half page rows done on page 6 over the last week or so but had noticed a very noticable line between the two columns. I said to myself 'don't worry about it, I'm sure it will come out when washed'. However while looking at the HAED forum, I noticed a topic talking about the same problem, but between pages. As I haven't had this problem with the rest of the project between pages, at least I don't think I have will have to take a very close look at it, I decided to have a read. Apparently tension issues, as well as some other things, can make these lines appear and I am wondering if it because I am using a scroll frame, which I have to say doesn't hold the tension as well as Q-Snaps, that my tension isn't even.
I am going to switch back to my Q-Snap frame and see if that makes a difference. However if that is the problem it means I can't use my floor frame for this project which is really frustrating as I was finding it very helpful. I will let you know what happens :)
Have a great day :)

Sorry - no crafty updates
It's true. I have no crafty updates for you today *sigh*. I have an assignment due for college in the near future so I have been working on that. Then during my break I play a little World of Warcraft, I get into gaming moods. I'm really looking forward to the next WoW expansion, but it probably means my crafting will suffer. Weirdly I have a copy of (close your eyes Joysze) Diablo 3 but still haven't started it!
I am really eager to finish page 6 of Bridge of Wings though so I must get to work on it. I usually work this projects in half columns, so I stitch all the stitches in one column, parking as I go to the half page mark (usually a little below), then I move over to the next column and do the same. When the half page is done I go back to the start and work the rest of the column, usually going onto the next page in order to finish all the blocks, and so on. So I have just 4 half columns left on page 6 and there isn't a huge amount of confetti. Although that it is still 2,000 stitches but once it is done I will be a quarter way through this chart and will have done approx 40,000 stitches.
I have to say I was surprised at the number of people who seem to really like the floral mini projects from my last post! They are quite fun to stitch, nice and easy, also easy to transport which is a big plus.
Have a nice day :)

Is it weird?
Is it weird that I keep looking at my own WIP's? I get my love of stitching from looking at other people's work but I also get a kick from looking at my own work and seeing how it is progressing. It almost seems a little self-centred though that I enjoy looking at my own work :D I wonder if anyone else gets enjoyment from looking at their projects.
However I have to admit ones that are going on a long time do tend to annoy me after a while. Close to the end of The Dreamer I wanted to throw it out the window, it lost all enjoyment and became such a chore. Then when I put aside my desire to finish it and just enjoyed doing the stitching I felt much better about it.
I would also like some stitcher input on a little problem I'm having. If you look at my WIP tab and have a quick look at The Journey (Aveyond), I am really unhappy with how the sky looks. My OH thinks it looks quite nice but it is really annoying me. I feel like I really don't want to do anymore on this, which would be a shame as I love the artwork. I know it's difficult to render such gradual colour blends in cross stitch as those that are in the sky of this one. It's just one of those things. I would love some thoughts on it, should I continue or is it destined to be relegated to the status of UFO?
Have a great day :)
